German photographer Arne Reimer has assembled his shots of legendary jazz greats for a photo book.
Originally featuring in Axel Steinhoff’s ‘Jazz Thing’ magazine over a period of three years, Arne Reimer’s photos are now published in the German language book American Jazz Heroes. In an interview for the website of Theo Parrish’s Wildheart Recordings, Reinmer describes how the project is aimed at focusing on “older musicians who were not so much in the focus of the media anymore”. Included in ‘American Jazz Heroes’ are some incredible shots of multi-instrumentalist Yusuf Lateef, drummer Idris Muhamad -both recently deceased, pianist Cecil Taylor relaxing in his own space and drummer Bernard Purdie amongst many others.
‘American Jazz Heroes’ is currently only available to buy in German here, although Reimer is actively seeking an English language publisher.
